Components are machined on high-rigidity Japanese 5-axis machining centers with high-pressure synthetic flood coolant to prevent work hardening and surface micro-tears.
Artisanal Finishing & Lapping
Components undergo specialized compound buffing, satin graining, and diamond micro-lapping to create distortion-free optical mirror bevels and crisp transition lines.
Passivation & Biocompatibility QC
Finished components undergo automated ultrasonic degreasing, chemical passivation, and salt-spray testing to verify hypoallergenic skin contact performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common technical and manufacturing questions regarding this material grade, tooling requirements, and finishing capabilities.
Can ceramic watch parts scratch during daily wear?
Under ordinary daily use, high-tech zirconia ceramic will not scratch. With a Vickers hardness of 1,500 to 1,800 HV, only materials of equivalent or greater hardness (such as solid sapphire or diamond) can scratch its surface.
Is ceramic brittle if dropped on a hard surface?
While high-tech ceramics are extremely hard, like all crystalline ceramics they are susceptible to high-energy impact. We address this by utilizing yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP), which absorbs stress through phase transformation toughening, and by engineering steel inner containers for monolithic cases.
How do you achieve deep colors like jet black, blue, and white in ceramic?
Color is engineered into the raw zirconium oxide powder prior to sintering by blending metallic pigment oxides (such as cobalt for deep blue or iron-chromium for jet black). Because the color permeates throughout the entire crystalline structure, it can never wear off or chip away.
How are numerals and indices applied to ceramic bezels?
We utilize picosecond laser micro-machining to deeply ablate the numerals into the sintered ceramic ring, followed by high-vacuum PVD sputtering of pure platinum or 24K gold, buffing away the surface excess to leave crisp metallic numerals.
